University Police Department

Scheduled Van Training:

  • Saturday, March 21, 2009 8 AM - 12 Noon, Bowers Hall room 109.

Please call (607) 753-2112 to sign up for a training date.


Van training is required for any student that will be driving a State/College van to include 12-15 passenger vans and mini-vans. In addition faculty/staff will also be required to take the course when they will be driving 12-15 passenger vans (mini-vans not included for faculty/staff).

What you'll learn

  • Van characteristics

  • Pre-trip inspection

  • Safety belts

  • Cushion of Safety

  • Scanning

  • Blind spots

  • City, highway and rural driving

  • Backing

Pre-Course Requirements for Students & Student-Staff Drivers:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license recognized by NY State.

  • Must possess such a license for at least two years.

  • May not have had more than one moving violation within the past three years.

  • May not have been convicted of either DWI or DUI within the past five years.

  • Must complete the Student Driver Application form and submit it to the University Police Department as soon as possible.
