Crime Alert- Sexual Assault

 

Timely Notification Bulletin

 

Ref: Incident # 64091 Rape

 

February 25, 2008

 

 

In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the NY State University Police Department-SUNY Cortland is giving notice of a reported sexual assault that occurred in a residence hall, on the SUNY Cortland campus.

 

REPORTED OFFENSE:  On Sunday, February 24, 2008 a sexual assault was reported to the University Police Department. The incident was reported to have taken place in the early morning hours on February 24, 2008.

 

SUSPECT(S):  The suspect was known to the victim prior to the incident and this information has been relayed to the University Police Department

 

  

It is the institution’s responsibility to notify the campus community that the incident occurred. The University Police Department will be investigating the incident.

In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the NY State University Police Department-SUNY Cortland is giving notice of a sexual assault that was reported to have occurred on campus. It is the institution's responsibility to notify the campus community that the incident occurred.

REPORTED OFFENSE: The University Police Department recently received a report of a sexual assault that reportedly occurred on January 29, 2008 in a campus residence hall.

SUSPECT(S): The suspect was known to the victim prior to the assault. The name of the suspect has been relayed to the University Police Department. The suspect was referred to the Office of Judicial Affairs at the victim's request.

In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the NY State University Police Department-SUNY Cortland is giving notice of a sexual assault that was reported to have occurred on campus. It is the institution's responsibility to notify the campus community that the incident occurred.

REPORTED OFFENSE: The University Police Department recently received a report of a sexual assault that reportedly occurred on or about November 18, 2007 in a campus residence hall.

SUSPECT(S): The suspect was known to the victim prior to the assault. The name of the suspect, a non-student, has been relayed to the University Police Department and an investigation has been started.

Crime Alert: Off-Campus Robbery

Ref: CPD Off-Campus Robbery

November 30, 2007


In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the NY State University Police Department-SUNY Cortland is giving notice of an off-campus robbery involving a SUNY Cortland student.

REPORTED OFFENSE: On Thursday, November 29, 2007 at approximately 6:12 PM a robbery was reported to have occurred near the corner of Owego Street and Tompkins Street, in the City of Cortland. The victim was a SUNY Cortland student.

SUSPECT(S): The suspects were described as three white males in their early 20’s. One male was described as being tall, large build, wearing a puffy brown jacket and apparently had decayed front teeth. The suspects stole the female victim’s purse containing cash. The suspects then fled on foot running south on Owego Street.

Since off campus housing is present in the Owego Street/Tompkins Street area and it is within walking distance of the College, it is the institutions responsibility to notify the campus community that the incident occurred. The Cortland City Police will be fully investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Cortland City Police at (607) 753-3001

Crime Alert- Burglary Arrest

Timely Notification Bulletin

Ref: Incident # 58311 Burglary

October 14, 2007


In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the NY State University Police Department-SUNY Cortland is giving notice of several reported burglaries and larcenies that occurred on the SUNY Cortland campus, in various residence halls.

REPORTED OFFENSE: On Saturday, October 13, 2007 at approximately 11:15 PM it was reported to the University Police Department that a suspicious male was seen walking the floors of Alger Hall with electronic equipment in his hands.

SUSPECT(S): Upon the arrival of the University Police Department a male suspect was located and arrested for Burglary, Criminal Trespass, Loitering, Trespass Violation and Petit Larceny. The male was identified as a non-student.

Notes: After the arrest the University Police Department obtained two search warrants and searched the suspect’s vehicle and motel room. Several laptop computers were recovered along with numerous other stolen items from previously reported larcenies. UPD believes that this suspect is responsible for several laptop thefts throughout campus and well as the recent vehicle break-ins in the Park Center parking lots. If you have had property stolen within the last two weeks and have not yet reported the crime to the University Police please call (607) 753-2112.

More suspect information: The suspect was identified as non-student Ryan Palmeri of Northport, NY. He was arraigned before Judge Burns in Cortland City Court and was remanded to the Cortland County Jail in lieu of $5000 cash of $10,000 bond. Several more charges are pending.

Special Note: Special thanks to the hall staff of Alger Hall for assisting UPD with the apprehension of this suspect. The hall staff on-duty immediately contacted the University Police Department and kept the suspect in sight until the officers arrived.
