CORTLAND,
N.Y. (July 20, 2005) – Professor David Snyder has been named the new coordinator of the sport management program at the State University of New York at Cortland. The appointment is effective June 1, 2005. Snyder replaces Dr. Ted Fay, who held the position for six years. Fay, who led the transition of the sport management program from a concentration with less than 50 students in 1999 to a full major approaching 400 in enrollment, will remain a senior faculty member in the program.
Snyder, who has taught in the sport management program since 2001, has served as assistant program coordinator under Fay since the 2002-2003 academic year. Snyder will continue to teach foundations of sport management, sport law and sport marketing courses in the program. The Webster, New York native has over 20 years experience in higher education and the sport business industry. A lawyer licensed to practice in New York State, he holds a J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law. From 1999-2002 he was the president of Rising Crane Sports Consultants, Inc., an international sport marketing company based in Tokyo, Japan.
Snyder has published several journal articles and book chapters and has presented at a myriad of national and international sport conferences. His research interests include Japanese baseball and international sport law and marketing.
Cortland's sport management program is based on a theory-to-practice model which proactively prepares students for careers in the extremely competitive sport business industry. Cortland currently has the only sport management major in the State University of New York (SUNY) system. All of its faculty have worked in the sport industry, and students in the program gain valuable insight into the field through hands-on experience and unique sport information technology certifications.
