CORTLAND,
NY (Sept. 14, 2004) — The sport management program
at the State University of New York College at Cortland will hold
its annual Suzanne Wingate Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday,
Sept. 25 at the Willowbrook Golf Course, 3267 Route 215, Cortland.
The
tournament, in its ninth year, is named after former SUNY Cortland
professor Dr. Suzanne Wingate. Wingate, who was an avid golfer,
is credited with founding the college’s sport management
program and worked there from 1985 until her death from cancer
in 1995.
Proceeds
from the tournament benefit the Suzanne Wingate Memorial Scholarship
Fund for sport management majors. The scholarship, given each
spring, became endowed in 2001. Previous recipients of the award
are: Douglas Forster (2004), Thomas Haslett (2003), Karin Pindle
(2002), Chad Homer (2001), Brian Duprey (1999), Joseph Barbarito
(1998) and Brian Marion (1997).
The
event at the 18-hole, par-70 course starts at 9 a.m. A barbeque
chicken dinner and Chinese auction will be held at 3:30 p.m. The
cost is $50 per person or $200 per team.
