ONLINE SPORT MANAGEMENT COURSES TO BE OFFERED DURING 2010 WINTER SESSION

The Cortland Sport Management Department will be offering two online courses during the 2010 Winter Session. All courses will be taught entirely online by professors in the department. Winter session classes start Monday, January 4 and conclude Friday, January 15.

The three-credit courses listed below are open to all students from all colleges and majors. If you are interested in taking any of these classes, contact sport management secretary Susan Stout at stouts@cortland.edu or 607-753-4251. If you have any questions about the course content or requirements, contact the professsors that will be teaching the courses. SPM 320 - Sport Entrepreneurship

Description: A detailed analysis of the management and marketing of sporting goods companies and sport retail business including e-commerce in sport-related enterprises. Students will study trends, display, target marketing, marketing demographics, customer service, and the basic functions of selling and managing a retail business operation. Purchasing, inventory control, cost and price analysis, supplier relationships, offshore procurement, and quality and ethical considerations will be examined.

SPM 329 - Internet Marketing & E-Commerce in Sport

Description:
How do professional sports teams make money with their Web sites? What made Yahoo!, Google, eBay and Facebook billion dollar businesses? How are average people becoming millionaires by marketing products and services online? What is Marketing Outrageously? These and other questions will be answered as this course examines and compares the business models behind the Internet marketing and e-commerce strategies utilized by large and small businesses to financially prosper in the information age. Unique and successful marketing plans of sport organizations will be profiled. Emphasis will be placed on the direct selling industry, Web portals, customer relationship management, online advertising, one-to-one marketing and mass customization methodologies.
