According to college policy, transfer credit is limited as follows:
- Transfers from two-year institutions may transfer no more than 64 credit hours.
- Transfers from four-year institutions must complete
a minimum of 45 credits at Cortland and also meet specific requirements
for the chosen major.
-
Transfers should begin their careers at SUNY Cortland by examining their curriculum records, particularly their evaluation of credits form. If there is some question regarding transcript evaluation and transferred credits, see the Admisisons Office or visit their Web site.
-
Transfer students need to satisfy the General Education program. Transfer students with an A.A. or A.S. degree (but not A.A.S.) will have met SUNY Cortlands GE program requirements. They will still have to complete SUNY GEs.
-
Students transferring into the certification program at the junior level will be required to spend an extra semester (a total of five semesters) at Cortland in order to satisfy all degree requirements. Four semesters are required for transfers in the non-certification major.
Students transferring to Cortland will be allowed to apply academic credit for all composition courses taken elsewhere to Cortland's six credit hour composition requirement (CPN 100-101). All composition courses accepted toward a degree at the student's former college will be accepted toward satisfaction of Cortland's requirements; however, courses which are identified in a college's catalog as being introductions to literature will not be counted fully, even though writing might be extensive in such courses.
Courses which require substantial writing are identified in the Course Schedule by the abbreviation WI following the course title. Writing Intensive courses must be taken at Cortland.
