Graduate Schools

According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the standard bearer for the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology, the minimal level of competence is a master's degree in speech-language pathology. Starting in the year 2012, the entrance level degree for audiology will be a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Au.D.).

Acceptance to graduate schools in speech-language pathology and audiology is competitive. The minimum GPA overall and in the major is a 3.0; however, many schools only accept students with GPAs well above this minimum.

Volunteer and employment experiences that relate to special populations or educational/vocational settings may be helpful and should be included in your graduate school applications.

Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores are also considered. You will need to prepare for these exams, if your performance on standardized tests (ex. S.A.T. in high school) tends to be lower than your actual academic abilities.
