Please congratulate the following students:

 

Kevin Butt recently graduated first in his class from the New York State Police Academy.  Kevin is a SUNY Cortland graduate who majored in Criminology.  Congratulations to Kevin and good luck to him in his future endeavors.

 

Kathleen Raedy has been selected as one of the three SUNY Cortland students who will participate in the EU-US Department of Education Atlantis Mobility Grant.  Kathleen will receive a $5,000 scholarship to help cover her costs while studying at the Universitatea Babes-Bolyai in Clug-Napoca, Romania in the spring semester 2010.  Congratulations to Kathleen!!

The Department of Sociology/Anthropology Honors Committee selected Sarah Voorhees as the winner of the 2009 Delmar C. Palm Award for Exemplary Volunteer Service.  Please congratulate her on this selection and thank her for her volunteer service to our community.

HONOR SOCIETIES

The following nine sociology majors were inducted into Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honors Society at our department honors dinner held on May 6, 2009. The guidelines restrict invitation to only those sociology junior and senior majors who have achieved a 3.0 cumulative GPA and 3.0 major GPA. The criteria further states the student must also have completed 4 courses in residence at SUNY Cortland to be eligible. Please congratulate Rebecca Bentley, Stacy Bigsby, Tiffani Gould, Elizabeth Green, Amber Ingalls, Melissa Maki, Jahsee Pickering, Joseph Pilero and Tracy Tarbox.

The following four criminology majors were inducted into Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminology Honors Society at our department honors dinner held on May 6, 2009.  The guidelines restrict invitation to only those criminology majors who have achieved a 3.2 cumulative GPA, 3.2 major GPA and rank in the top 35% of their class.  The criteria further states the student must also have completed at least one-third of the total credit hours for graduation and 12 credit hours in the criminology major.  Please congratulate Jaclyn Hart, Jessica Kristy, Kathleen Raedy and Jason Weese.

Faculty News

Dr. Richard Kendrick fulfilled his term as Chair of the department on July 31, 2009.  We thank him for all his time and efforts during his term.  Dr. William Skipper began his term as Chair on August 1, 2009.  Congratulations to Dr. Skipper.  We welcome him to this position and look forward to his efforts.
