Clubs and Honor Societies
Sociology/Anthropology and Criminology Clubs
All Cortland students who are interested in sociology, criminology and/or anthropology are invited to join the Sociology/Anthropology Club or the Criminology Club, which provides involvement beyond the classroom in both fields. Members organize lectures, debates, films, field trips to various institutions, travel to professional conferences, and informal gatherings between students and faculty. Membership is open to non-majors as well as to students majoring in sociology, criminology, or anthropology.
National Honor Society in Sociology
Alpha Kappa Delta
Students who earn an average grade of "B" or higher in at least 12 hours of sociology courses, as well as a cumulative grade point average which falls in the upper 35 percent of their class, are eligible for election to the New York Nu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the national sociology honorary society. Normally, invitations to join are sent out in March, and those accepting membership are honored at a luncheon held prior to graduation ceremonies. The purpose of the organization is to encourage and recognize academic excellence in the study and practice of sociology. In some instances, membership brings a small point average bonus on federal civil service tests. The National Representative of the Associated Chapters of Alpha Kappa Delta on the Cortland campus will be appointed this fall.
