The Chair reported on the recent election for vacant Senate seats and announced that Howard Botwinick and John Shedd have won the election for Arts and Sciences seats. He also mentioned that an election was run for a seat in Fine Arts and Humanities although those results have not been officially announced.
Dr. Peagler gave a brief statement
asking the Senate for its support to the student Senators in their voice and
contribution to the

D. Berger reported that there is $983.07 in the Scholarship Fund and announced that he had heard that this was one of the best years ever for the Senate Treasury.

Long Range Planning Committee – D. Ritchie - No report.
Educational Policy Committee – J. Cottone - J. Cottone gave a brief report regarding his committee's charge to review the withdrawal policy. He announced that, due to a busy agenda this spring, the committee had to postpone its work until the fall, unless the Senate voted otherwise.
Student Affairs Committee – M. Connell, Chair – No report (absent)
Faculty Affairs Committee – G. Clarke, Chair, gave a brief report regarding review of departmental policies in the Biological Sciences.

2) For the next two
months the ROGC engaged in an extensive series of discussions of all relevant
sections of the College Handbook which pertain to faculty governance. We also reviewed the final report from the
previous ROGC as well as the final report of the “Ad Hoc Committee for
We have been looking at issues of voting structure, the
composition and duties of all of the senate’s standing committees, and the
overall structure and procedures of the senate.
Our primary purpose has been to look into ways to strengthen faculty
governance at Cortland. We are also
trying to take a fresh look at the issues of genuine empowerment and would like
to find ways to more effectively empower all of the different constituencies at
the college in places where it makes the most sense in terms of expertise,
training, voice, and impact. Within
this context we are also exploring the differences between traditional models
of “faculty” governance (primarily involving teaching faculty) and models of
“shared governance” (faculty more broadly construed to include professionals
and sometimes administrators).
