Proposed Revised College Handbook section 220.06, Policies and Procedures of Academic Faculty for reappointment, continuing appointment, and promotion; Provost's response to question

At the upcoming Faculty Senate meeting on Tuesday, May 14, 1-2:30pm, Hall of Fame Room (PER Center) the Senate will discuss and consider the report from the Faculty Affairs Committee containing revisions to the College Handbook section on policies and procedures of academic faculty for reappointment, continuing appointment, and promotion. During the most recent Faculty Senate meeting on May 1, the proposed revisions were handed out, and questions were fielded concerning the charge to the Faculty Affairs Committee. A question was asked of the administration concerning allowing reappointment, continuing appointment, and promotion candidates to continue to be fully informed of all information used in those evalutions, and the Provost's response is included here. Resolution on providing needed research and teaching databases for access SUNY-wide

At the Faculty Senate meeting on Tuesday, November 28, the Steering Committee introduced, for endorsement, a resolution passed at the University Faculty Senate Fall Plenary Meeting in October. This resolution calls on the SUNY Provost to work with faculty to develop a strategy and funding mechanism for providing SUNY-wide access to more specialized research and teaching databases and electronic resources. The resolution was passed at the November 28 2006 meeting.


New Curriculum Change Guidelines document, and Curriculum Review Committee Membership modifications

At the Faculty Senate meeting on Tuesday, November 28 (1-2:30pm, Jacobus Lounge in Brockway) the Senate 1) referred to the Faculty Governance Review Committee the proposed modifications in the College Curriculum Review Committee membership; and 2) endorsed the new version of the SUNY Cortland Curriculum Change Guide (November, 2006). Both had been approved previously by the Educational Policies Committee.


Report on the GEAR Review “Credit mandatory” and “Infusion” Issues

The Faculty Senate General Education Committee was charged Sept. 24th by the Senate to look at the GEAR (SUNY GE Assessment Review) Group’s response to the Cortland Strengthened Campus Based Assessment Proposal, focussing on two issues: mandatory credit for students participating in the GE assessment, and the assessment of infusion of critical thinking. The Faculty Senate endorsed the report and recommendations at their October 31, 2006 meeting.


General Education Restructuring Proposal

The Faculty Senate sent the General Education Committee's Proposal for restructuring the Cortland General Education program to the voting faculty for REFERENDUM. The REFERENDUM question was: Should SUNY Cortland adopt the restructured Cortland General Education program and revised transfer waiver formula as detailed in the Cortland General Education Restructuring Proposal? [Yes or No]A majority of the faculty voting voted YES.Previously, at the April 25, 2006 meeting the Faculty Senate voted 19-3 to endorse the Restructuring Proposal as presented.

Strategic Plan GOALS, 2005-2010 cycle

President Bitterbaum has released the five "SUNY Cortland Institutional Goals, 2005-2010". The Strategic Plans developed by each admininstrative division are to further these goals, as well as furthering the college's Mission, the 2005-2010 Memorandum of Understanding with SUNY, the updated Master Plan (2006), and other planning documents.

The schedule and process for the 2000-2002 Long Range Plan was approved 11/6/2000 by the Faculty Senate and 11/27/2000 by the President.
