Informal recreation is the unstructured, voluntary use of the recreation facilities. The staff in the Recreational Sports Department realizes the importance of this avenue of recreation and we make every effort to provide our students and faculty/staff with these recreational opportunities. Due to the increase in the Mandatory Student Activity Fee, the recreation facilities are continuously becoming more available to the campus community. Many facilities are open early in the morning and most facilities remain open until 11 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. Most facilities are also available until 10:00 p.m. throughout the weekend. We encourage all students and faculty/staff to take advantage of these hours. STUDENTS - YOU NOW HAVE A BETTER ALTERNATIVE TO
THE DOWNTOWN SCENE!!!
All participants must present a current SUNY Cortland photo ID/Club Rec card to use the facilities. To assure fair, consistent enforcement, the card must be presented each time one participates. This include spouses, dependents and club rec members. Dependents under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent at all times.
* Faculty/staff and their families must purchase a semester pass or daily pass to use these facilities. Students must present their SUNY Cortland photo I.D. cards. Fitness Facilities are not available to Club Rec members. All Open Recreation hours are subject to change depending upon the Intramural Sport in progress and other special events. SUNY Cortland recreation facilities are available to SUNY Cortland student/faculty/staff, their spouses and dependents and Club Recreation members.
The building of a new Student Life Center at SUNY Cortland is now more realistic than ever. There is a broad base of support throughout the campus for this facility, and it has the support of Student Government. The project is included in the College's Master Plan and is designated as the number one project on the campus for new construction. President Bitterbaum is also very much in favor of constructing this facility and is aggressively seeking funding from the State in the next Legislative session. Some of the components might include:
We desperately need a facility that is ALWAYS available
for ALL students, from 6:00 a.m. to midnight weekdays and until 2:00 a.m.
on weekends. By providing high-quality, consistent recreational services
and a place for students to "hang out" and socialize, the SLC would be an
excellent alternative to the downtown scene. Not only would it be
invaluable in recruiting students, it would enhance the quality of student
life more than anything else could possibly do. It is imperative that we
immediately take our proposal forward to the State Legislature. Please
call Julian Wright, Director of Recreational Sports (75305585), with any
questions or concerns about the Student Life Center proposal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
