Group Exercise Schedule /  Personal Training Program / Club Rec Program


SUNY Cortland has two excellent fitness facilities available for use by students, faculty, and staff. The Tomik Facility is located in the Cornish/Van Hoesen Building and the Woods Facility is in the Park Center (PER). Our friendly and helpful staff are available to ensure a safe, effective workout for both the novice and experienced exerciser. Our staff provides individual orientation and instruction to our "state-of-the-art" equipment.

TOMIK AND WOODS FITNESS FACILITIES OFFER:

State-of-the-Art Equipment: The Tomik Facility boasts a wide array of aerobic equipment including Quinton & Precor treadmills, Schwinn Air-Dyne bicycles, Precor elliptical fitness cross-trainers, Cybex Arc Trainers, and Concept II rowing ergometers.  In addition, the facility offers Cybex, Pyramid, Nautilus Nitro, Hoist and Hammer Strength Selectorized weight-training equipment, two Cybex 360 Functional Trainers, two ABBenches as well as a variety of free weights and a Gravitron. The Tomik facility has a power lifting platform and rubber plates for Olympic-style lifting. Our aerobics studio offers space for martial arts training, stretching, light weight training, and individual calisthenics.

The Woods Facility offers both Hammer Strength and selectorized Cybex weight training equipment and an extensive selection of free weight equipment, as well as Tectrix computerized bicycles and climbers, Precor elliptical fitness trainers, Cybex Arc Trainers and a Concept II rowing ergometer. Recently, we added the following new pieces of equipment to the Woods Fitness Facility.

 

Provide Excellent Supervision and Instruction:
Louise Mahar is our full-time Assistant Director of Recreational Sports for Fitness. She is a certified Health and Fitness Instructor through the American College of Sport Medicine and a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Louise is experienced and knowledgeable. She provides excellent training for her  Graduate Assistant - Ethan Carter (Tomik) and for her fitness instructor staff. They are all dedicated to help you get the most from your fitness program.

Monday through Friday  6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Monday through Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Friday   9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Sunday  12:00 to 11:00 p.m.

 

Tomik Facility

Monday through Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Friday 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Sunday  9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

* The facilities are also open on a limited, but reasonable schedule during the Summer and intersession periods.

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

Individuals eligible to use the fitness facilities include:

  • Current students

  • Current and retired faculty/staff

  • Spouses and children (over the age of 16) of faculty/staff

  • Alumni (special rates apply)

    Faculty/Staff Membership Process:

  1. Obtain a SUNY Cortland photo ID card at the A.S.C. Office in Neubig Hall.

  2. Bring the ID card to the Recreational Sports Office at E-245 Park Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Fill out a registration form and pay the membership fee.

  3. If membership is not purchased for the entire year, you must revalidate your membership at the Recreational Sports Office at the beginning of each semester.

  4. Spouses and dependents of faculty/staff must follow the same procedure.

Please Note: Students pay a $35.00 per semester Mandatory Activity Fee which is dedicated to the Recreational Sports Program. To use the facilities, students must present their SUNY Cortland ID card and bring a towel. However, since activity fees are not assessed in the Summer, students must purchase memberships at $25 per Summer term or $60 dollars for the entire Summer. Faculty/staff, their spouses and dependents (age 16+) must buy a membership to use the facilities.

TOMIK & WOODS FITNESS FACILITY RULES

  1. The facilities are operated on an open recreation concept. Therefore, team/group workouts are not permitted. Individuals or groups may not dominate any area of the facility or piece of equipment. Participants are also expected to move from station to station at a reasonable rate.

  2. Students must present a valid SUNY Cortland ID card each time they enter the facility. No other form of ID is acceptable. All other eligible participants must present a current membership card, as well as their SUNY Cortland ID Card.

  3. Participants must be at least 16 years of age.

  4. In order to maintain a safe and sanitary environment and to protect upholstery on equipment, everyone must:

    1. Have a towel in their possession at all times to wipe sweat off equipment
      (wash cloths are not acceptable).

    2. Wear a shirt and sneakers (no open footwear) at all times.

    3. Not wear jeans or cut-off jeans (metal rivets tear upholstery)

      Bags, coats and personal items are not allowed in the facility. Recreational Sports, Student Affairs and SUNY Cortland are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

  5. Tobacco, gum, food and drink (unless water in a covered plastic bottle) are not allowed inside the facility.
  6. Participants must respect the authority of the Fitness Staff and respond to their directions accordingly.

  7. Participants must follow all posted instructions for proper equipment according to the manufacturer's intended purpose.

  8. Participants must return all equipment to its proper place after use and report malfunctioning or broken equipment to the staff.

  9. Participants must pay replacement costs for damaged equipment as a result of their reckless or negligent behavior.

  10. Participants who do not adhere to the fitness facility rules, will lose their privilege of using the facilities.
