The Profession

Therapeutic recreation is one of the fastest growing professions today. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that there will be more jobs than graduates to fill them over the next decade. Therapeutic recreation offers a unique career opportunity for individuals who value leisure experiences and enjoy working with people with disabilities. Practiced in clinical, residential, and community settings, the profession of therapeutic recreation uses treatment, education, and recreation services to help people with illnesses, disabilities, and other conditions to develop and use their leisure in ways that enhance their health, independence, and well-being. Therapeutic recreation makes a difference in the quality of life for people with disabilities!
