Elizabeth Davis-Russell has been the provost and vice president for academic affairs at SUNY Cortland since July 1, 2001.
Previously, she served two years as presidential associate at Alliant International University, the former California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP).
She joined the CSPP faculty in 1988 and was promoted to full professor in 1992. She was CSPP coordinator of continuing education in 1988-89, director of cross-cultural psychology proficiency from 1989-95, and dean of academic and professional affairs of the Fresno campus from 1995-98. Davis-Russell was an associate professor and coordinator of psychology at CUNYs LaGuardia Community College in Long Island, N.Y., between 1973-1980. She served on the Core Faculty at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology from 1985-88.
Her other professional experience included serving as director of guidance and placement at the YMCA of Greater New Yorks Harlem Branch in 1970-71; coordinator of adult and family services at Chicagos Englewood Community Health Organizations in 1982-83; clinical director at Chicagos Bobby E. Wright Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center in 1984; and director of admissions and director of the Center for Inter-cultural Clinical Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 1986-87 and 1987-88, respectively.
A past president of the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology, Davis-Russell has received both a Doctor of Humane Letters and the Excellence in Teaching
Award from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
A native of Harper, Liberia in West Africa, she graduated from Suehn Academy in Liberia and the London Tutorial College in London, England. She earned a bachelors degree in psychology from Oakland University in Michigan, a master's degree in educational psychology from New York University (NYU), a Doctor of Education in Counselor Education from Yeshiva University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from NYU. She received her certification in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from the Institute for the Study of Psychotherapy in New York City.
