History:
U.S.A.F 1977 - 1981
SUNY Cortland BS Physics 1986
Grumman Technical Services 1987-1992
Sumitomo Fiber Optics 1992-1994
MCI Telecommunications 1994-1999
IBM, Research Triangle Park, N.C. 1999- Present

In 1987 I began work at Grumman Aerospace as a semiconductor equipment engineer located at the IBM E.Fishkill, N.Y. facility in support of electron beam accelerators used for personalization of ICs. I also worked several months at the Brookhaven National Laboratory for semiconductor equipment research.

By mid-1992 I moved to Durham, N.C. to begin 2 years at Sumitomo Fiber Optics as a technical supervisor for fiber optic fusion splicing equipment. In early 1994 I was performing network management functions for MCI telecommunications in Cary, N.C. I held three different positions including network surveillance of MCI's national fiber system, staff engineer developing next-generation network management applications, and as a WAN engineer. At the close of 1999 I joined IBM in RTP as an IP network engineer focusing on routed networking support. In 2001, another career shift occurred, this time within IBM working in the Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Server (NAS) arena performing technology solutions and product support for the IBM customer base. Since 2004 my combined experience and skills are applied to complex SAN networks in enterprise level environments.  A very demanding profession offering boundless challenges and opportunities with the requirement to continually learn new IT technologies.

Overall, my professional career has taken on a satisfying and continual metamorphosis. A cornerstone to my ever changing career is my diverse technical and physical sciences studies during my undergraduate days.

On a personal note, I married in 1988. My wife, Lynn completed her 2nd master's degree in 1999 from UNC at Chapel Hill. We have a 10 year old son, Nicholas and 6 year old daughter, Marissa. We have lived in North Carolina since 1992 with a home in Chapel Hill. We really enjoy the Raleigh-Durham area with plans to be here for a while.  Go Tarheels!

SUNY College at Cortland BS 1986
Colorado State University (CSU) MS 1990
Research Associate (CSU) 1990-1992
Roper Scientific 1992-present

As I look back on my career I realize that my interests have centered around optical detection. After graduating from the Cortland Physics department I pursued a Master's degree at Colorado State University. As it was difficult to blend my studies into the numerous outdoor activities found in Colorado, I managed to use high-resolution optical spectroscopy to measure the relativistic Doppler shift in moving atoms. As my interest in optics increased, I found myself focusing at the microscopic level. Imaging developing nerve cells first exposed me to quantitative imaging. Currently I am employed designing and marketing CCD imaging systems for such fields as astronomy, spectroscopy and, of course, biological microscopy.

In 1992 I married a Denver native, Louise, and together we moved to the wonderful desert environment here in Tucson. We have a one-year old son William who keeps us fit by chasing us around the house. Louise recently completed her Master's in Education but plans to return to the working world are temporarily on hold as we are expecting our second child. In our free time we enjoy hiking, biking, star gazing and travel.
