I am very glad to be a graduate of Cortland. Looking back at my college career, I consider my decision to become a Philosophy major one of the best I could have made. While it is a small department, I discovered many advantages that might not have been present at larger department. The obvious advantage is the personalized attention available. Whether meeting with professors for extra help outside of class, having time with my advisor for advice choosing my schedule, or just having a few professors to email a quick philosophical query to, there was always someone there to meet my academic needs. One further advantage of Cortland's small Philosophy department I took advantage of is the opportunity to experience the alternate classroom environment of distance learning. Through distance learning I was able to participate in classes that complemented those I was taking at Cortland, all the while meeting and interacting with other Philosophy majors and professors from around New York State.
While at Cortland, I was active in the superb volleyball club, excellent Rec. Sports program, and also Minored in History. Though it is the methods of critical thinking and evaluation learned from philosophy that have served me best with the decisions of everyday life since graduation. I am currently applying to graduate school to further pursue the study of philosophy with hope of becoming a professor at the college level.
