She Said What?

On Wednesday, November 15, 2006, in the Corey Union Function Room at 7:00 p.m., the Cortland Writers Association will be hosting an event featuring Michelle Berry, gospel-oriented slam poet. Berry is the author of The Month of Not Speaking and Labor, her recent book of poems and essays which explore the politics of labor and giving birth, the issues of power and privilege, potential responses to alienation, traditional labor vs. "modern" work, the body as machine, and the beauty evident in chaos. Currently the Poet Laureate of Tompkins County, she has opened for legendary literary giants Dr. Maya Angelou and Dr. Howard Zinn.

Performing after Michelle Berry will be SUNY Cortland student writers and musicians. The event, hosted by the Cortland Writers Association, will affirm Cortland's Mission Statement by providing a high-quality program in the arts as well as an appreciation of diversity.

This event is open to Cortland students, faculty, staff, and community. It will be an exciting evening of originality, diversity, food, and fun.[1]
