thomas  S. HischakTHOMAS S. HISCHAK is the internationally recognized scholar on the American theatre, author of sixteen books, including “The Oxford Companion to the American Musical,” “Theatre As Human Action,” “The American Musical Theatre Song Encyclopedia,” “Enter the Players: New York Actors in the 20th Century,” “Boy Loses Girl: Broadway's Librettists,” “The Rodgers and Hammerstein Encyclopedia,” “The Oxford Companion to American Theatre” (3rd edition with Gerald Bordman), and “Word Crazy: Broadway Lyricists From Cohan to Sondheim.” He is also the author of twenty published plays which have been produced across the United States, as well as in Great Britain, Canada, and Australia.

Professor Hischak holds degrees from St. Louis University and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He teaches courses on the American musical theatre, theatre history, and theatre management. In 2004 he was awarded SUNY's Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activity and in 2008 was named a Fulbright Scholar and taught and directed theatre in Greece.
