Donna K. Anderson

Donna K. Anderson,Professor Emerita of Music, retired from the faculty of the Performing Arts Department in 1977, where she taught music history and served as department chair. She received her Ph.D. in musicology from Indiana University, where she studied with Willi Apel, Paul Nettl, and John Reeves White. She studied piano at IU with Joseph Battista, and later privately with Joseph Bloch of the Juilliard School of Music.

Anderson is considered to be the world-wide expert on the life and music of the American composer, Charles T. Griffes. Her publications include three books and articles on his life and music, and has edited numerous editions of his compositions published by C. F. Peters Corporation, G. Schirmer, Inc., and the Smithsonian Institution Press. She has arranged and performed in numerous concerts of Griffes' music in various locations, especially on the east coast. These concerts have included many premiere performances. She also performed frequently with her colleagues at SUNY Cortland, and occasionally puts her retirement on hold to teach on an adjunct basis for the college.
