Marion Giambattista
MARION GIAMBATTISTA is a native of Western New York. She graduated from the University of Buffalo and went on to earn a masters degree in vocal performance from Syracuse University where she studied with Helen Boatwright and was assistant conductor for the Syracuse Chorale. She then taught voice at Ithaca College and also was on the staff at Cornell University where she taught voice and administered the vocal program for choral students.
While teaching in Ithaca she gave regular vocal and chamber music recitals, often premiering works of new composers from Cornell and Ithaca College. She appeared with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, the Corning Orchestra and was a frequent soloist with choral ensembles including the Cornell Chorale, the Gerald Wolff Singers, Ensemble Sine Nomine and the Cortland Choral Union. In 1996 Marion completed her NY State certification to teach public school music and for the next ten years was the choral and voice teacher at Cortland High School.
She now teaches voice in the Performing Arts Department at SUNY Cortland. She enjoys participating in the Choral Union and the also the orchestra where she plays violin or viola. Recently she has formed a chamber choir that participates in the Arts at Grace concert series. Her husband, Alan Giambattista teaches physics at Cornell and often is seen in Cortland and Ithaca performing on piano or harpsichord. They reside in Groton, NY.
