Kirby Camp

The Kirby Camp
Operating dates: Mid-June through mid-September

The Kirby Camp consists of a single cabin with unique architecture. The camp built in the late 1880's has had little settling and is structurally sound today. Sitting on the front porch surrounded by woodlands, the cabin overlooks the south bay of Raquette Lake with peaceful solitude. The camp boasts vertical log construction around the first floor and finishes on the second floor with horizontal logs peaked to the roof. The interior walls of the cabin display carefully crafted logs finished with beautiful shine and luster. Each room has doors leading to the outside.

For many years the Kirby Camp was rented to college faculty and staff. Newspapers from 1976 were the only remnants of its last guests, sometime there after the cabin was boarded up and left unused. Due to the lack of money and staff, the cabin fell into disrepair. In early 2002, donors were identified who wanted to see the cabin repaired and used again. In the summer of 2003, the Kirby camp was re-opened after a full year of renovation and cleaning.

The Kirby Camp is rented on a weekly basis to alumni, faculty, and staff of the college. The camp is available from mid-June through mid-September. Interested parties should contact the Center of Environmental and Outdoor Education's campus phone number.
