"It's a great way to get my wonderful family away from the hustle and bustle of Long Island for some rest and relaxation before we start the new school year."
-Jim Dooley, '87
"This is the first time I've been here, and my husband and I really love it. It's a great setting-peaceful and so much to do (without TV). We hope to come back often!"
-Sarah Jaenike Demo, '92
"We have been here at least seven seasons-our son and daughter both spent several summers working at Antlers. Antlers-the lake and the setting have mesmerized my wife and my kids and myself. My kids are now past thirty. Both have been back as adults. This week in the summer is one we always look forward to. The college has something very special. Hopefully the powers that be will continue to realize that. I am sure the experiences people have here have resulted in great rewards for the college overall. P.S. The staff involved have always been super people!"
-Len Cohen, former faculty and Linda Frank, '61
"I've always loved Raquette Lake ever since I spent my two weeks here in 1955. Three years ago I returned with my family."
-Dorothy Will, '49
"I worked here three summers in the 80's. I love the fact that the place doesn't really change. It stands still among the changes happening in the 'outside world.' It's so beautiful to sit on the front porch and look at Blue Mountain."
-Suzanne Cohen, daughter of Len Cohen, former faculty and Linda Frank, '61
"The kids and I have been coming to Raquette Lake for eight years. The first year Meghan was still in diapers, now she is going into sixth grade. At every age the kids have enjoyed their time at Antlers. Now that they are older they realize it is because it is a rare time that we are all together as a family. We spend time together at the fire circle at night making s'mores and singing and laughing. We kayak together to get ice cream in the village and we attend local events to get a better understanding of living in the Adirondacks. As the kids have gotten older they have realized how great it is that we take the time together and that not every family climbs a mountain every summer together.
"As a parent I have always felt that my children were safe at Antlers, that the spirit of the camp is to enjoy life but respect nature and others. The kids learned simple things like signing out a boat and writing down where you were going is for your safety not just so the adults can be noisy. They have learned not to leave your marshmallow stick out at night because the fox will lick it and that the bear will visit the Terrace Cottages if anyone leaves crackers and cheese on the porch.
"Every year we wait for our letter from SUNY Cortland to arrive in the mailbox in January that says we can come back in July to our favorite place in the world."
-Patti Service
And what do the kids have to say...
"My family and I have been coming here for about seven or eight years, and we're already looking forward to next year. Antlers has meant a lot to my two younger sisters and to me. We've grown up here-we're now 20, 18, and 14 and we're still coming back! Alumni Family Camp is definitely always a summer highlight."
-Holly Cowan, daughter of Lew Cowan, '73
"I like the beach. I have one little tube and one big one and two swimmies…I like everything! And we went on a canoe!"
Courtney, 4 yrs.
"It's fun because there's lots of fish off the dock. We always catch a fish, almost every cast we catch one."
Ryan, 6 yrs.
"And we like the campfires…can we have another one tonight? We saw a fox going under somebody's porch. Then it ran away somewhere."
-Michael, 6 yrs.
"I love coming to Antlers because it's a great place to be with friends and family and just to have a good time. Kayaking is my favorite thing to do here."
Erica, 8 yrs.
"I like coming here to swim and to boat, too. And the food is very good."
Blayne, 8 yrs.
