The Research and Sponsored Programs Office (RSPO) is designated as the office responsible for processing requests for all pertinent externally funded activities and for coordinating the administrative process to the point of acceptance and allocation of funds. The office offers assistance to faculty and staff in all aspects of proposal preparation and submission. All completed proposals are submitted directly by RSPO to the funding agency.
RSPO also attempts to learn of individual and campus research interests in attempts to match those interests with funding opportunities. Specific funding opportunities are forwarded directly to interested parties while more general opportunities are available through the Funding Opportunities page and electronic listserv.
In addition to sponsored activity, RSPO is also responsible for the coordination of the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The IRB is responsible for reviewing research protocols that involve human participants. SUNY Cortland is committed to respecting the rights, privacy and general welfare of all individuals involved as participants in research and other projects. The federal government, the NYS Department of Health, and the SUNY Board of Trustees policies all dictate that any project (research, teaching, or demonstration) that involves the use of human research participants must be reviewed by the IRB.
