About the Recreation Referral Service

NYS IRRC will assist participants with a disability in identifying recreation interests and goals, exploring and choosing community recreation resources, and working with identified programs, areas, or services on full inclusion.

Referral and matching may be a simple email exchange or perhaps a phone conversation, or it may take the form of an in-depth interaction, depending on the needs of the individual with a disability.

The therapeutic recreation process is used to facilitate full inclusion in recreation. In addition to the staff of the NYS IRRC, several trained Inclusion Advocates around the state are prepared to facilitate the Recreation Referral Service.
