Timothy J. Baroni is a Professor of Biology at State
University of New York - College at Cortland. His interest in the fleshy
pored boletes started when he was an undergraduate student at the Humboldt
State University in northern California under the direction of Dr. David
L. Largent with additional mentoring from Dr. Harry D. Thiers, then at
San Francisco State University. Two papers were published in MYCOLOGIA from
that research work in the late 1970's. Baroni's interest in this striking group of Basidiomycetes
has continued over the years and because of a close working relationship with Ernst Both, Baroni
has continued to study bolete systematics in addition to his other research interests in the Entolomataceae.
Ernst and I hope that all who visit this WEB site will enjoy our offering
on boletes from Central New York.
