Boletus auripes-immature
Peck

Photograph by T. J. Baroni ©1998
The picture shows an immature
specimen of a rarely collected bolete, characterized by a brown pileus
and yellow, finely reticulated stipe. The context is yellow and usually
does not change color when exposed. In rare cases there may be
a very slight bluing present. It appears to be related to B. appendiculatus (Schaeffer)
and B. speciosus (Frost). For a comparison with other taxa see Baroni (1998, Bull. Buffalo
Soc. Nat. Sci. 36: 245-255).
