Boletus bicolor
Peck

Photograph by T. J. Baroni ©1998
This is a member of a group of similar boletes that are, at times,
difficult to identify. Characteristic of B. bicolor are the
very short tubes (usually 5 mm or less), the dark red pileus that
bleaches to ochraceous when exposed to the sun, the red stipe and yellow flesh
that changes to blue only slightly when cut.
