It was placed in Fuscoboletinus because of the chocolate color of the spore deposit and the pore surface. Molecular analysis by Kretzer & Bruns indicate no hiatus between Suillus and Fuscoboletinus. The pileus is viscid, chocolate brown, the stipe yellowish with an annulus that is membranous, becoming viscid and collapsing, with the apex somewhat reticulated. It is very close, if not identical with Suillus viscidus (Fries & Hoek) Rauschert = Suillus aeruginascens (Secretan) Snell.
