Boletus subvelutipes
Peck

A red-pored bolete that is very common in the northeast,
strongly bluing when handled. The pileus ranges from yellow-brown to reddish-brown
with the stipe showing similar colors and with a "hairy tomentum toward the base" that
is reddish-rust. Peck erroneously called the context "whitish." It actually is yellow
but changes to blue so rapidly, then fading to whitish so that it appears as if
it is whitish from the beginning. Repeated rapid cuts reveal the yellow color.
