A somewhat non-descript bolete that seems to prefer road banks in coniferous woods. The pileus colors range from yellowish-brown to reddish-brown and the pileipellis stains greenish-blue. The pallid stipe has a coarse, incomplete network of lines in the apical area. A darker form bears the name B. lanatus Rostkorius.
