Critique of a
"Teaching" Web site
As a preservice teacher, it is expected of me to create lesson plans to share with fellow students, professors, and possibly even use in my own classroom. However, I have yet to look on the popular web site "LessonPlans.com" for my information. I have heard from several people this is a great site to go to when looking for ideas for the classroom, so I decided to see if I agreed with them!
As I opened up the site, a voice welcomed me to their page. I was pleased to hear this voice, though I know nobody was really talking to me, it was catching, and I felt encouraged to continue searching their site!
As I continued down the page, I noticed many links for various sites. There were colorful pictures to catch my eye, interesting graphics, and little blurbs about what each link would take me to. This helped me when I finally decided what it was I was looking for!
I noticed lesson plans for ESL teachers, astronomy lessons, math and science lessons, and many others! My decision was tough to make in deciding which link to go to. I was not overwhelmed by the amount of materials, just shocked!
Finally, I found a link to click on, and I was set to see where it would take me!
The link I chose took me to a page where I was to decide which level I wanted to search through. I chose the first level, assuming it would be for the youngest aged children, and I continued on. The site I was at used Google as its search engine. All I had to do was type in what I was looking for, and up popped my selections! It was very quick and convenient!
Before I knew it, I had several sites to choose from to acquire a lesson of measurement in math! I did not know i would be able to see such results so quickly! I was very impressed!
I definitely think this web site is an asset to teachers, especially if just starting out! I may not use it right away, as I think I am full of ideas, but I am sure reality will sink in, and I will look to LessonPlans.com for assistance in my classroom!
All in all, I feel this web site was very inviting, and well worth my time. Many great resources are available through this site, and people should take advantage of this service, however, be creative and go out on a limb in your classroom as well! These lessons have been done before, try and add a new twist to things!
Good Luck!
