Proposed Timeline to NCATE/NYSED Accreditation

Spring, 2001

4/01/01  NYSED deadline for graduate teacher education program reregistry.  Institutions meet with consultants at annual AACTE meeting to review report on action plans.  Second PETE Consultant visit (funded by project).  Consultant submits written reports.  NCATE folios submitted for outside review. 

Fall, 2001

Implement newly revised graduate teacher education programs. 

Spring, 2002

Middle states site visit.  NCATE Preconditions Report sent.  NCATE folios submitted to NCATE for review by respective organizations. 

Fall, 2002

Additional PETE Consultations(funded by institution). Optional mock visit (funded by institution). Continuation of site visit preparations.  Preparation for NCATE site visit continues. 

Spring, 2003

Preparation for NCATE site visit.  April 2003  Institution publishes announcements of joint site visit.  NCATE sends final preconditions report to  institution. 

Summer, 2003

August 2003  Institutional Report due to NCATE 60 days prior to site visit.  Previsit required 60 days prior to site visit. 

Fall, 2003

September 2003  State stops issuing temporary licenses.  Mentoring requirements for professional certificate go into effect. 
 **NCATE/SED SITE VISIT** MARCH 20-24, 2004 

Spring, 2004

February 2, 2004  New requirements for initial and professional certificates go into effect.  New certificate titles go into effect. Mar/April 2004 NCATE Unit Accreditation Board  (UAB) notifies institution of decision re-accreditation. 

Fall, 2004

September 2004  Elimination of transcript evaluation except for reciprocity and certified teachers.  December 31,2004 all teacher education programs must be accredited. 

Fall, 2005

September 2005  First professional certificate with new requirements is issued.  Professional Standards and Practices Board provides summative evaluation of Teaching Plan to Regents.

All teacher education graduates in New York State must complete a mandatory course in Child Abuse and Maltreatment in order to be eligible for certification.  SUNY Cortland offers the course on campus for its graduation candidates.  Below you will find information and dates for Spring 2003.

Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment Workshops
SPRING SEMESTER, 2004

Intended for:  This workshop is ONLY available for current SUNY Cortland students seeking certification recommendation from SUNY Cortland.

The Workshop:  All those individuals seeking teacher certification must complete a minimum of two clock hours of instruction regarding the identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment.  Any State Education Department approved agency can provide the required child abuse workshop.  SUNY Cortland is an approved provider for this course.

Fee: $15.00 fee for instruction and text (subject to change)..  Return payment with registration form to the CEE Office, A-11 Van Hoesen Hall no later than two days prior to the date of the workshop.

Pre-registration is required. Registration forms are now available in the Center for Educational Exchange Office, A-11 Van Hoesen Hall and the Career Services Office.  Registration deadline is two days prior to the day of the workshop.  No registration will be accepted the day before or the day of the workshop.  Students not present at the beginning of the workshop will not be admitted and must register for a subsequent workshop (if one is available).  Registered students who do NOT attend the workshop, will have to re-register and pay an additional $5.00 fee.   For more information, contact the Center for Educational Exchange at (607) 753-4704.

Books:  Books will be handed out upon registration.  If not registering in person, the instructor will have a book for you at the workshop.
