INFORMATION RESOURCES POLICY ON WEBCASTING
Definition:
Webcasting is defined as transmitting audio and video media over the Internet for distribution to many simultaneous listeners and viewers. A webcast can be archived for subsequent broadcasts at a later time.
Responsibility:
Classroom Media Services is responsible for coordinating webcasts for SUNY Cortland in consultation with the Systems Administrators in Administrative Computing, the Web Development Support Specialist in Memorial Library, and students enrolled in the New Communications Media program. Requests are made to the CMS Technical Support Specialist who is the initial point person.
Procedure:
Classroom Media Services will record live webcasts with a laptop computer and digital camera designated for this purpose. The webcast will be will streamed using the campus video server and be accessible through a campus website dedicated for this purpose.
Editing and Archiving Webcasts
Editing and preservation of webcasts will be determined on a case-by-case basis depending on requester needs. The production staff in Memorial Library will be responsible for editing and making recommendations about format and preservation. Depending on subsequent broadcast media, production staff in Memorial Library will be responsible for editing and making available in appropriate formats.
