Languages Across the Curriculum

The Cortland ICC department is part of a group of SUNY schools developing a program in Languages Across the Curriculum under a grant from FIPSE (Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education) entitled LxC-Select. The SUNY Cortland ICC department with the Modern Languages department at SUNY Oswego has received a $121,706 grant for the develpopment of multimedia materials for foreign languages on the WWW. The Languages Across the Curriculum Multimedia Development project is directed by Robert Ponterio (Cortland) and Virginia Fichera (Oswego) and is funded by the SUNY Office of Educational Technology. Cortland's project modules include French civilization (M. Ponterio), communications technology for the FL teaching methods (J. LeLoup), an online technology in language teaching course (J. LeLoup & R. Ponterio), and introductory statistics in Spanish (F. Valdes & R. Ponterio).

FLTEACH, the Foreign language Teaching Forum, has existed since 1994 and has been supported by two grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities 1997-2001 ($60,000) and 2002-2006 ($167,198). The project directors, Cortland faculty Jean LeLoup and Robert Ponterio, own and moderate the FLTEACH electronic discussion list for foreign language teachers worldwide and manage the FLTEACH Web page.

ICC faculty should include these in their course syllabi.
