POSITION:
Two positions - History
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
B.A. or B.S. in History or History/Social Studies with a 3.0 grade point average overall and in the major. Good writing and speaking skills, acceptance into the M.A. program in history or the M.S. program in Secondary Social Studies/History, full-time course load, (Students with only 6 hours of credit during the semester or year of service will also be considered but for reduced compensation.)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Teaching experience, or work with students one on one on reading and writing skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist undergraduate students, individually and in small groups, in survey courses with reading and writing skills, help faculty members with research or teaching projects, 15-20 hours per week (8-10 hours for students taking 6 hours of graduate credit).
COMPENSATION:
$5,000 stipend per academic year, plus 6 credit hours of in-state tuition support, or 6 credit hours of in-state tuition support per semester. (6 credit hours of in-state tuition support for students taking only 6 hours of graduate credit.)
POSITION:
Mathematics
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of statistics and Microsoft Excel, interest in helping college students learn mathematics.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to students enrolled in the M.A.T. or M.S.Ed. program in Adolescence Mathematics Education.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assisting in PED 434, Statistics and Assessment classes, assisting students with projects in the computer lab both during the class and outside of class, tutoring Physical Education students in mathematics, computer lab hours outside of class time and additional hours for tutoring.
COMPENSATION:
6 credit hours of in-state tuition support per semester.
POSITION:
Childhood Program (Field Experience Practical)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Coordinator of Field Experiences, assist with the student teaching seminars,
check student teaching eligibility, maintain up-to-date files for all practicum students; check for 100 hours prior to student teaching as well as necessary experiences, contact schools to verify placements or canvass for needed placements in the “name of the coordinator”, maintain appropriate files for students in remediation.
COMPENSATION:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist instructor of EDU 314, Teaching with Computers in Elementary and Middle School, assist students with software applications, hardware issues, and development of web-based projects, maintain office hours when students can seek additional assistance with technological issues.

POSITION:
Early Childhood Program
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in Education or related area, organizational skills, knowledge of the childhood and early childhood programs, ability to work well with others in the College and the community, basic computer technology skills (word processing) and use of digital and video camera.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced computer skills (web-site development and technology assistance to students).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with tasks required for the operation of the childhood and early childhood programs. (Example: Videotape student teaching seminars and mail the videos to student teachers in specified areas), assist with Children’s Museum operation, including arranging exhibits, providing scheduling and class demonstration support, work with community agencies that interact with the early childhood program and the Children’s Museum.
COMPENSATION:

POSITION:
Literacy Department
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Admission to or application to the Literacy Master’s Program, SUNY Cortland, evidence of high levels of academic achievement, writing, and communication skills, interest in the field of literacy, ability to function as part of a team is essential.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Technology skills including competence with word processing, data management, and presentation programs, teaching experience at the K-12 level.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist chair in compiling and maintaining accurate enrollment records for the department, with the assistance of faculty members, update references for undergraduate and graduate courses to meet new International Reading Association standards, with the chair’s direction, take on special projects that will assist the department in meeting national and state standards, engage with local P-12 schools, and advance the department’s mission.
COMPENSATION:

Foundations and Social Advocacy Department
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Undergraduate degree in Education in any certification areas, or related field of study.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Department chair and faculty with activities related to the undergraduate programs in Special Education and Urban Education. General office skills related to department library and information systems.

POSITION:
Two positions - Adapted Physical Education
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Undergraduate degree in Physical Education and NYS physical education teacher certification, enrollment in the Adapted Concentration in the Physical Education master’s degree program.

Strong teaching skills, organizational skills, the ability to work well with others, and knowledge in Adapted Physical Education.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities of Graduate Assistants in Adapted Physical Education include supervision and organization of the six labs in undergraduate students in PED 356, Adapted Physical Education and Sport, and other responsibilities in the area of adapted physical education. Overseeing the labs by graduate assistants, as well as the faculty assigned to teach the labs, is requisite to the safety of all participants involved.

Service assignments including home and away event coverage as negotiated with the head athletic trainer. Teach one section of HLH 199: Critical School Health Issues (2 credits) fall and spring semester (Course description can be found in the SUNY Cortland undergraduate catalogue.), assist instructors of large courses (HLH 110, HLH 265) with administering exams and general course administration tasks.

$1,500 per semester, plus 3 credit hours of in-state tuition support per semester.
POSITION:
Motor Behavior
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
B.S. degree in exercise science, physical education, or related field, acceptance in master’s program at SUNY Cortland, undergraduate course work in area of motor behavior or motor learning.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate student in exercise science, physical education or health, experience as laboratory assistant in area of motor behavior, motor learning, motor control, familiarity and experience with standard motor learning apparatus including rotory pursuit, basin anticipation timing apparatus, Lafayette reaction time equipment, kinesthesiometer, tutoring experience, experience with applied learning situations (problem-based learning), technology skills including knowledge of excel, PowerPoint and video taping, students with research interests consistent with the goals of the ESSS Department are encouraged to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and supervising undergraduate laboratory sections of motor behavior, holding office hours, assisting with laboratory research projects and assisting with other departmental programs as negotiated by department chair.

Outdoor Pursuits/ Cycling Specialist and Program Coordinator
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Acceptance into SUNY Cortland graduate program, experience leading group trips in two or more of the following activities: bike touring, mountain biking, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, snowshoeing, caving, cross-country skiing, winter camping, etc., first-aid/CPR, clean driving record/eligible for campus approval as van driver, ability to maintain bicycles in safe operating condition, ability to coordinate a large, campus-wide program with many volunteers.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Wilderness First Responder, certification as a bicycle mechanic.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach 1 credit activity courses for RLS department, assist with leadership and coordination of Cortland Outdoor Opportunities Program, a non-credit, co-curricular program of outdoor pursuits, oversee/assist with management of equipment, equipment room, and other aspects of the Cortland Community Bike Program.
COMPENSATION:
$5,000 stipend for the academic year, plus 6 credit hour of in-state tuition support per semester.
POSITION:
Outdoor Pursuits Specialist
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Acceptance into SUNY Cortland graduate program, experience leading group trips in two or more of the following activities: backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, snowshoeing, caving, cross-country skiing, winter camping, etc., first-Aid/CPR,
clean driving record/eligible for campus approval as van driver.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Wilderness First Responder, lifeguard training or comparable certification.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach 1 credit activity courses for RLS department, assist with leadership and coordination of Cortland Outdoor Opportunities Program, a non-credit, co-curricular program of outdoor pursuits, oversee/assist with management of equipment and equipment room for COOP and credit courses in outdoor pursuits, assist with REC 370: Outdoor Education Practicum, and other outdoor leadership courses in the curriculum,
teach labs for REC 574: Outdoor Pursuits Education and Leadership.
COMPENSATION:
$5,000 stipend academic year, plus 6 credit hour in-state tuition support per semester.
POSITION:
Teaching, Fieldwork and Lab Assistant
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Acceptance for graduate study, excellent oral and written communication skills,
Record keeping, group leadership/facilitation experience preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach labs and assist with a large lecture course, Play Across Cultures (GE3) (up to 95 students in one section). Assist with logistics, planning, grading, and teaching during small group games and other activity labs embedded in the course, assist with the Special Events Planning courses (REC 427 and REC 428 year-long sequence), which includes large responsibilities in planning, implementing and evaluating the Annual Cortland Recreation Conference (draws around 400 attendees per year), supervise the fieldwork hours for 3 courses: REC 280 (usually around 50 students each doing 20 hours), REC 393 (usually around 60 students each doing 25 hours), and REC 470 (usually around 50 students doing 30 hours). This entails extensive collaboration and communication with community recreation and human service agencies in the Cortland/Ithaca/Syracuse area. Supervision includes weekly grading of fieldwork reports from students and monitoring of hours, assist with other courses as assigned, assist with faculty research, including literature review, data collection, data entry and analysis, and other research needs, other duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION:
$5,000 stipend for the academic year, plus 6 credit hours of in-state tuition support per semester.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in the fitness industry; education or training in Fitness, Physical Education, Exercise Physiology, Health, Wellness, or other directly related area; personal training certification (ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA, or other); experience in the use, instruction, and maintenance of fitness equipment; strong leadership, customer service, decision-making, interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work well with students, faculty and staff; certification in CPR/First Aid; and experience in personnel supervision.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with the development, promotion and management of all fitness programs including aerobics, Tomik & Woods Fitness Facilities, personal training and wellness programming, assist with hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating fitness facility staff (evening and weekend hours required, assist with the design and implementation of training sessions for student staff, oversee cleaning responsibility system for all fitness instructors, routinely inventory equipment, accessories and supplies, responsible for covering shifts within the fitness facilities, attend all Recreational Sports Department staff meetings, assist in various Recreational Sports special events, occasional physical labor may be required.

$6,000 per academic year, plus tuition waiver for 6 credit hours of graduate work per semester.

Intramural Sports
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior work experience in an Intramural Sports Program; education or experience in Recreation, Physical Education or Sport Management; experience hiring, scheduling and supervising employees, CPR/First Aid Certification, officiating experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Assistant Director of Recreational Sports for Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs with all aspects of the daily operations of the Intramural Sports Program, including but not limited to: assist with scheduling all Intramural Sports activities and maintain records of league standings and participation rates, assist with interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating student sport supervisors, officials and statisticians, assist with conducting captains meeting for Intramural Sports leagues, assist with revising the Intramural Sports Employee’s Manual and Policies and Procedures Manual, maintain a current inventory of all intramural equipment and make recommendations for purchase of new equipment, provide award T-shirts for all Intramural Sports champions, assist with promotion and marketing of all intramural sports and special events, oversee all aspects of the Recreational Sports Special Events Program, including the processing of entry forms and making arrangements for food, officials, equipment and facilities.
COMPENSATION:
$6,000 per academic year, plus 6 credit hours of in-state tuition support per semester.

Assist with planning, organizing, and conducting the Sport Club Advisory Board, keep accurate records of all required paperwork for all clubs and see that the paperwork timeline is strictly adhered to, assist with sport club accounting, assist with ordering equipment and maintain an accurate equipment inventory for all clubs, assist in scheduling of sport clubs contests and special events, publicize all sport club activities and/or contests on campus, supervise all sport club activities and/or contests on campus and occasionally attend/supervise off-campus club events, assist with the supervision of all sport club fund raising endeavors, attend weekly Recreational Sports Department staff meetings, assist in various Recreational Sports special events, assist in maintaining sport club web site.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Director of Recreational Sports with the daily operations of the Open Recreation Program, including but not limited to: Supervise the general operations of Park Center, Moffett Pool/ Gymnasium, outdoor basketball courts, Tomik Fitness Facility and Lusk Field House, oversee all Open Recreation building supervisors, lifeguards and facility supervisors (evening and weekend hours required), oversee operation of the equipment checkout service, interview, hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate student workers, attend all Recreational Sports Staff meetings, assist in various Recreational Sports special events.
COMPENSATION:
$6,000 per year plus tuition waiver for up to 6 credit hours of graduate work per semester
POSITION:
Environmental and Outdoor Education Assistant
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Acceptance into SUNY Cortland graduate program, superior writing and speaking skills,
word processing/computer skills, leadership and organizational abilities.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience designing, writing, publishing newsletters or journals, experience organizing events.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with administration of the Coalition for Education in the Outdoors (CEO), including correspondence and record keeping, membership database maintenance, etc., serve as Associate Editor of Taproot, the quarterly journal of the Coalition. Includes large amounts of writing, editing, soliciting articles, research, communication, assisting with layout and design, and other duties associated with the journal, assist with the planning, implementation and evaluation of the CEO Biennial Research Symposium, serve as associate editor of the CEO Biennial Research Symposium Abstracts, published after the research symposium, assist with Center for Environmental and Outdoor activities on campus such as the annual Earth Day celebration and other student-focused events as time permits.
COMPENSATION:
$5,000 stipend for the academic year, plus 6 credit hours of in-state tuition support per semester.

Graduate Studies Office
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Advanced computer skills; Excel spreadsheets and web-based software; interpersonal skills and a desire to listen and advocate for graduate students.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
Inputting survey data into Excel spreadsheets, Running descriptive statistics with graphs and
charts, setting up and tabulating an online survey, organizing and helping to lead a student
advisory council, assisting the Summer Session office with marketing, serving as a spokesperson for graduate students.
COMPENSATION:
6 credit hours of in-state tuition support per semester and a semester stipend of $2500.
