Task Force on Accreditation in Health Education: Profession Survey

The executive boards of the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) and the American Association for Health Education (AAHE) have appointed a special Task Force to carefully examine the issue of accreditation in health education. This survey is designed to help the Task Force learn more about the opinions and needs of important constituents within the health education field. Completing this survey is completely voluntary and anonymous; no personal identifiers are being collected. All data will be reported in aggregate form only.

*All questions above specifically addressed institution/college and program accreditation.* The following questions deal directly with an individual credentialing process. Please note this important distinction.

At this time the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC) offers the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) examination, for individuals in the health education/promotion profession. Eligibility, to sit for the examination, is based exclusively on academic qualifications. The CHES examination is given bi-annually in specific locations. This is an individual credentialing process. After completing the examination successfully, continuing education credits must be completed by the health professional to maintain the CHES credential.

13A. Please indicate below your current CHES status.

If chose option #4 CHES credential lapsed or #5 Eligible but currently not a CHES, please indicate in the comment box below why you have not maintained or became CHES credentialed.

13B. How important do you believe the CHES Credential is to the health education/promotion profession?

13C. Would you see a benefit in linking the CHES credentialing process to an academic program?

14. What would you recommend to NCHEC as an appropriate linkage to program accreditation?
Successful completion of a recognized accredited or an approved program would automatically qualify one to sit for the exam.

Successful completion of a recognized accredited or an approved program would automatically qualify one to receive CHES credentialing, without the current examination requirement.

The CHES credentialing process should be left as it currently exists.
