VIII. SST Professional Sequence: Junior Year |

| These courses must be taken during the junior year. They contain 60 of the 100 hours of the Pre-Student Teaching Secondary Education Observation required by State Education. After students register for these courses, they will be contacted by the college Field Placement Office about procedures for placement. Students must apply to and be formally accepted into the SST Program in fall of their junior year in order to proceed in the SST Professional Sequence. See admission requirements. | |
Fall Semester: Contains a 25-hour field observation component, which will be assigned during the semester by our Field Placement Office. |

| In fall of their junior year, students must apply and be accepted into the SST major for spring in order to proceed in the Professional Sequence. To change from the SSTW [SST-Wait”] to the SST major, they must have: junior status (at or near 75 credit hours); a minimum overall GPA of 2.5; a minimum of 18 credit hours, a 2.5 GPA, and a C- or better in all introductory courses in the social science major; and a minimum of 25 hours of field experience in secondary schools. They must also meet the campus “moral character” criteria for teacher education majors, which address issues such as judicial and criminal findings, and academic dishonesty findings. | |
| Spring Semester: AED 300: Introduction to Secondary Social Studies Contains a 35 hour field observation component, which will be assigned during the semester by our Field Placement Office. |

| Fall Semester: Final preparation for student teaching
AED 301: Pre-Practice Teaching Seminar Students who enroll in AED 301 will receive, through the Field Placement Office, field observation placements of 40 hours in schools at or near their home towns. These observations are to be completed in May and June, and credit will be awarded, in conjunction with attached coursework, through AED 301. |

Spring Semester: Student teaching in two placements, and seminar Student teaching is the capstone experience in the program. Students who cannot graduate by the December following student teaching cannot enroll. |

To enroll in the courses below, students must have: senior status (at or near 90 credit hours); a minimum overall GPA of 2.5; a minimum of 24 credit hours, a 2.7 GPA, and a C- or better in all introductory courses in the social science major (calculated at the end of the spring semester preceding student teaching); a grade of C or better in SSS 300; and a minimum of 100 hours of field experience in secondary schools in order to enroll. They must also meet the campus “moral character” criteria for teacher education majors, which address issues such as judicial and criminal findings, and academic dishonesty findings. |
