The Bowers Hall weather station at
SUNY Cortland is a Davis Instruments Vantage Pro 2
system. The integrated sensor suite (temperature, humidity and
tipping-bucket rain gauge) is mounted on a pole with an aneometer on a
seperate north-facing arm. The large aerovane on the top of the
pole
looks good and still functions, but stopped transmitting data many
years ago. Data are recorded every 5 minutes and transmitted wirelessly to the receiving console and computer. Weatherlink software is used to record and archive the data, and to upload the latest data to these web pages. |
| The pole with the instrument
cluster is mounted on the roof of Bowers Hall. The instruments
are 5 feet above the small upper roof which, in turn, is 9 feet above
the main roof area. The absolute elevation of the instruments is
1280 feet above sea level. Bowers Hall is situated in the main SUNY Cortland campus on the top of College Hill. This hill rises over 60 feet above the rest of Cortland and so the instuments are well exposed to the elements. |
