Campus-Based Assessment of General Education: A Collaborative Dialogue

June 4-5, 2001

The SUNY General Education Assessment Conference, "Campus-Based Assessment of General Education: A Collaborative Dialogue" took place on June 4-5, 2001 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Syracuse, New York (Carrier Circle). Sponsored by SUNY Cortland, Upstate Medical University, the General Education Assessment Review (GEAR) Group, and the Office of the Provost, with the support of the University Faculty Senate and the Faculty Council of Community Colleges, the primary purpose of this conference was to kick off SUNY campus-based general education assessment.

Each campus was invited to send two members of its faculty, professional staff, or administration who would play a key role in the planning, implementation, and reporting of General Education assessment to join their colleagues from across the State University to share information, questions, and best practices, and to engage in a productive exchange of ideas and experiences.

Dr. Candace Young, professor of political science at Truman State University in Missouri, was the keynote speaker for the conference.

Included on this site are relevant conference materials, including the conference program, a listing of conference participants, and a conference summary presented to the SUNY Board of Trustees Academic Standards Committee in June 2001.
