SUNY Cortland web account set-up

Step 1

If you do not already know your SUNY Cortland email account information, go to the SUNY Cortland WebMail page. You need your SUNY Cortland email login to set up your web space if you are a student in this course.

Step 2

Go to SUNY Cortland Academic Computing Services - Technology Help Center support page.

Follow directions to go to "Student Support / Creating Web Pages." This will eventually take you to the web sever: http://www.cortland.edu/acs/assets/Linkedfiles/StudentWebPages.asp where you can set up a web account associated with your Cortland student WebMail username and password. For quick access to STUDENT web spaces go to : http://studentweb.cortland.edu/. The web address for FACULTY web accounts is http://web.cortland.edu/ .

This web space is simply a folder on the Cortland web server. It looks like any other folder, and you can copy files to it and from it just as you copy files from one folder to another on your computer or from your computer to your USB flash drive. Once your web space is set up, you may have to wait some time before you actually can log into it to transfer your web pages. There are several ways to transfer files to this web space once your login grants you access. Your User Name for the Web space login will be your Cortland NetID (e.g. john.smith - just like email). File transfer from one computer to another over the Internet is accomplished through FTP (File Transfer Protocol).

The web assignments for the course will go into folders that you will put in this online web account space and can be accessed using the URL: http://studentweb.cortland.edu/YourUserNameWhateverThatHappensToBe/FolderName/FileName.html

For instance:

http://studentweb.cortland.edu/john.smith/miniproj1/index.html
