About four weeks after you file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), you should receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). This is a summary of the information you provided; in most cases, a SAR will also be sent electronically to all the colleges you listed on the FAFSA.
If you don't get your SAR within six weeks, you should call the Federal Processor for a status report at 1-800-433-3243. |

The dates listed below are the last dates that the information should be filed in order to receive your financial aid in a timely manner: ______ By March 1 The student should have filed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and photocopied the application for their records. Be prepared with photocopies of your federal tax returns and W-2 forms (for both student and parent). Assuming the student applied by the March 1st deadline, the student should receive a letter from SUNY Cortland by June 1. If the student has not received any correspondence, they should call the Financial Advisement Office (607) 753-4717 and check on the status of their application. ______ By April 30 Students planning on attending summer school should set up an appointment with their financial aid advisor. ______ By June 1 If the student's application is selected for verification, the student will receive a letter and a verification worksheet. The student and parent should fill out the verification worksheet and return it with the copies of federal tax returns and W-2 forms. ______ By June 1 File a New York State (NYS) TAP application. New York State residents attending a NYS college will be mailed a TAP application from Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC). If the student does not receive a TAP application approximately six weeks after filing the FAFSA he/she should call the Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) and request one be sent. (1-888-NYSHESC) ______ By July 1 Be aware that all financial aid packages will include a Stafford student loan. If the student does not wish to receive the offered loan or wants a reduced amount, he/she needs to indicate this to the Financial Advisement Office in writing. A copy of the award letter with the reductions noted along with the student's signature next to the change is sufficient. ______ By July 1 Accept financial aid package on Banner Web. First time loan borrowers must also complete the Entrance Interview Session on Banner Web. ______ By July 30 Complete and return the Master Promissory Note (MPN) to American Student Assistance(ASA). The MPN is mailed from the American Student Assistance(ASA). Only Students who did not have a loan in the prior academic year, at SUNY Cortland, will be required to do this. ______ By Aug. 1 Students should have received a bill for the Fall semester. All students must accept charges with Student Accounting Office by the date posted on the bill even if financial aid covers your entire bill and you will be receiving a refund. |
