BANNER WEB: Banner Web is the on-line system that SUNY Cortland students use to manage their finanical aid pacakge, register for classes, view mid-term and final grades, select residence hall options and monitor their student account. Because Banner Web operated via the Internet, it is available to you 25 hours a day, seven days a week.
Students who have been accepted into a degree program are issued a unique Cortland Student ID number by the Admissions Office and a online Banner Web Account is created.
Banner Web accounts are also created for graduate students upon acceptance into a graduate degree program.
ACCESSING BANNER WEB:
Banner Web may be accessed from any computer linked to the internet. Log into the SUNY Cortland homepage at www.cortland.edu and click Banner Web from the menu bar or click on “Quick Links” using the drop down box and select “Banner Web.”
FIRST TIME USERS: If you have never logged into Banner Web before, you will need to go to the College's online access page located at www.cortland.edu/admissions/onlineaccess.html to receive your temporary personal identification number (PIN). Write down your temporary PIN and use it to sign into Banner Web.
Once you sign into Banner Web, you will be prompted to select a new, six-digit, alpha numeric PIN. The new PIN should not be shared with anyone. You will also be asked to select a secret questions and answer in the event you forget your PIN. A suggestion for the secret question might be, "What is my mother's maiden name?"
FINANCIAL AID
The actual award package will determine what requirements are necessary to complete.
ACCEPT OR DECLINE AWARD PACKAGE: This allows the student to view a “live” award letter. There are options at the bottom of the screen which allows the student to modify the aid package (if necessary). Once a package is acceptable to the student, clicking the “accept” button will result in a “terms and conditions” screen to come into view. Students should read the terms and conditions before they click “I Agree” and they should also print out a copy for their records. All students must complete this requirement even if they are only accepting grants or scholarships!
COMPLETE AN ENTRANCE INTERVIEW: All new borrowers (students who have never taken out a federal student loan) must complete this process. From the Financial Aid Status page, select the “Entrance Interview” option. Click “Begin Interview.” This is called an interview but basically it is a six-question quiz about
Once the interview is completed, students should return to the Financial Aid Status page and complete the “Select a Lender” requirement.
SELECT A LENDER: New borrowers need to choose a student loan lender. From the Financial Aid Status page, select the “Select a Lender” option. Click on the drop-down box to view the lenders. If you wish to choose a lender that is not already listed in Banner Web, please contact the Financial Advisement Office at (607) 75304717 or e-mail finaid@cortland.edu and we will assist you. Once a selection is made by clicking on the box labeled “record your selection” the transaction will be confirmed.
Return to the Financial Aid Status page to complete any other requirements.
FEDERAL WORK STUDY AND PERKINS: If a student has been awarded Federal Work Study or a Perkins Loan, the requirements for these programs will appear on the Financial Aid Status screen.
The Federal Work Study page asks a student to choose preferences for various jobs. Once completed, they must accept the “rights and responsibilities” statement. Students may revisit the Work Study page 30 to 60 days before the semester starts to view their actual placement and supervisor/contact information.
The Perkins Loan page will require the student to do an entrance interview specific to the Perkins Loan program and to accept the “right and responsibilities” statement. One the semester starts, you will receive an e-mail notification asking you to log into Banner Web to E-Sign your Perkins Master Promissory Note.
