Message From the Director:

As the Director of Field Placement at SUNY Cortland, I would like to welcome you to the Field Placement Office.  My interest in pre-service teacher education led me to this position, and it is my pleasure and privilege to be a part of the SUNY Cortland campus community.  I, once again, look forward to the opportunity of working with students, faculty, college supervisors, host teachers, and school administrators as we begin the fall semester, and throughout the 2008-2009 academic year.

SUNY Cortland has worked hard to optimize the learning that takes place during field experiences in pre-student teaching, student teaching, and internship placements by creating opportunities that enable students to explore a variety of diverse settings within an extensive network of employers in the region and throughout the state.  This includes opportunities for placements in multicultural urban settings, socio-economically challenged rural settings, and other sites considered to be "high need".

Future teachers may also have the option of completing their student teaching experience in New York City, through Cortland's affiliation with the SUNY Urban Teacher Education Center (SUTEC), or abroad in Queensland, Australia.

The goal of field experiences is to produce professionally competent, knowledgeable, and reflective practitioners who have the courage to teach and the motivation to continue learning.  We are committed to doing everything we can to help you acquire the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to prepare you to meet the challenges of entry into your chosen profession.

Again, welcome to the Field Placement Office and its web site.  Please don't hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions or concerns regarding field placements.  Best wishes for a successful school year!

Sincerely,

Kathy Beney
