College Supervisor Information

College supervisors are key to the success of our teacher preparation program. Their commitment to our teacher candidates during their student teaching semester is unparalleled. Our sincerest appreciation goes to the 75 plus student teacher supervisors that make a difference in the lives of many future educators.

Student Teaching

Student teaching is the culmination of Cortland’s teacher education program. It is intended to provide the opportunity to put all the previous field experience and pedagogical instructions into practice and provide invaluable feedback.

The calendar reflecting the dates in which the student teacher is in their placement varies according to the program. Guidelines and expectations for student teachers, cooperating teachers, and college supervisors are outlined in the Student Teaching Handbook. Along with regular feedback the college requests that the college supervisor provide online mid-quarter and final evaluations for each student teacher they are supervising.

Supervisors are also responsible for submitting final grades through Banner Web. The submission dates for grades are different than STE deadline dates and are set by the registrar.

The College supervisor submits corrected/updated placement verification sheets and any required affidavits to the Field Placement Office on the last day of each student teaching
quarter.

The Field Placement Office is responsible for compensating college supervisors for travel to school sites for observation, conferences with teacher candidates and cooperating teachers, as well as required seminars during the student teacher semester.
