Teaching Students with Disabilities (1-6) MSEd. T.S.D. with optional annotation in Teaching Students with Severe/Multiple Disabilities (6 credits)
Teachers who have qualified as Childhood Education teachers or who have qualified as teachers in an area that incorporates childhood education content including health, physical education, art, music, early childhood education, speech and language disabilities, or special education in New York State at the Bachelor's degree level are encouraged to apply to this program for certification in Special Education (1-6). This degree requires a minimum of 36 credit hours of approved graduate course work including student teaching and a culminating experience in research. Students may elect to take an additional six credit hours in approved course work to receive an annotation in teaching students with severe/multiple disabilities.
This program of study will appeal to individuals who wish to work as a special education teacher (1-6), an inclusive childhood/elementary teacher (1-6), a resource room teacher (1-6), a Committee on Special Education (CSE) Chair, a community college instructor, or a developmental disabilities advocate specialist. Additional career opportunities exist for those who wish to work with individuals with disabilities in the community.
Interested students can call the Graduate Studies Office for an application packet. Once the completed application packet has been processed, the Graduate Admissions Committee for the Foundations and Social Advocacy Department will contact qualified individuals for an interview. Application deadlines are available from the Graduate Studies Office.
This program is highly competitive with limited enrollment. Apply early to avoid disappointment.
