About
Today, SUNY Cortland EMS cares for approximately 7,000 individuals who work, study, or visit the Cortland campus daily, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week while classes are in session. We are dispatched from the Cortland County 911 Center, so when you call x4111 from an on-campus telephone your call is automatically directed to a qualified 911 operator who will help us provide the quickest response we can. In order for us to provide the best coverage we can for emergency needs, as well as stand-bys, we have a 2002 AEV TraumaHawk Type III Ambulance and a 1994 Ford Ecnoline Cargo Van, modified to carry emergency equipment. We also have members that have been trained by the University Police to ride as a bike patrol for stand-bys as well as on campus events, such as Spring Fling.
SCEMS is a non-transporting volunteer agency, meaning that we do not provide any kind of transport to hospitals. TLC Ambulance assists us with making sure that anyone on campus who needs to be taken to the hospital is transported there promptly and safely. Although we are unable to transport patients, we are still staffed with volunteer students who are highly qualified in Basic Life Support skills. Every time we respond there is at least one Certified New York Stated Emergency Medical Technician on board.
