Welcome

SUNY Cortland's English department offers a range of courses and majors across the growing field of English Studies in a personal, friendly environment that emphasizes faculty-student relationships and the building of a vibrant, professional and intellectual community. Our programs reflect our commitment to balancing the value of a well-rounded liberal arts education with the preparation of our students for their careers. As such, in addition to excellent, contemporary classes in all the traditional literary areas of English Studies, our department also offers courses in teaching methods, professional writing, and multimedia.

To achieve this end, our department has built a faculty who actively pursues research in a wide variety of fields and brings that knowledge into small classes where students have the opportunity to develop a personal, professional relationship with their teachers. For while we recognize the clear importance of knowledge to be gained through coursework, we also realize that a meaningful, lasting education is founded upon students becoming part of an intellectual community and forging lifelong, learning friendships with peers and faculty.

We invite you to peruse our web site and discover more about who we are and what we offer to the students of Cortland College. And, we would like to hear from you: your comments, suggestions, and questions are more than welcome.
