Academic Integrity
As students, scholars, and faculty, our behavior is guided by our sense of what is right and what is wrong. This moral sense comes from our upbringing, our education and our experiences with life. This sense of right and wrong extends to our academic life as well. Academic integrity is our behavior and judgment within the realms of scholarship, inquiry, study, research, reflection and discussion.
Academic Integrity at SUNY Cortland
At SUNY Cortland, the college community is dedicated to respect for knowledge and the people who produce it and use it. To honor the work of other scholars and thinkers, SUNY Cortland faculty and staff uphold high intellectual standards and model good ethical thinking and behavior. To provide a framework of understanding, the SUNY Cortland Statement of Academic Integrity is contained in the College Handbook.
Also found in the Chapter 340 of the College Handbook are procedures for violations of the College policy on academic integrity. A violation of this policy is considered an act of academic dishonesty. Instances of academic dishonesty include plagiarism, cheating on examinations, purchasing tests or papers written by others, and altering college documents.
