Introduction to Web Accessibility
Web accessibility refers to making Web pages available and readable to all users, including those with disabilities such as sight or hearing impairments.
SUNY Cortland is committed to Web accessibility and strives to provide a Web presence that enables all its constituents full access to information, programs and activities offered through the Web. This effort is pursuant to both state policy and federal law including New York State Technology Policy P04-002, New York State Mandatory Technology Standard S04-001 and the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 - Section 508.
Why is it Important?
An estimated 20 percent of the population in the United States has some kind of disability. While accessibility may be conceptually linked to people with disabilities, accessible Web sites benefit users with older modems and browsers and may improve the site's search engine ranking.
Reporting Web Accessibility Problems
The SUNY Cortland Web presence consists of hundreds of sites that are managed and maintained by the individual departments and sponsoring organizations. The quickest way to have a Web accessibility issue addressed is to contact the owner of the site directly. If the problem remains unresolved, please send an e-mail to webmaster@cortland.edu.
